IDC Quarterly Report on the Global Ethernet Switch Market Shows Double-Digit Growth in Q4 2024, Driven by Data Center Demand
The global Ethernet switch market recorded revenue of $12.0 billion in the fourth quarter of 2024 (4Q24), representing a 13.3% year-over-year (YoY) increase. However, for the entire year of 2024, the market declined by 5.4%, closing the year with $41.8 billion in revenue. The overall global enterprise and service provider (SP) router market declined by 4.5% YoY in Q4 2024 and by 19.1% YoY for the entire year, reaching $13.3 billion.
Ethernet Switch Market Highlights
- Data center segment revenue grew by 32.1% in Q4 2024 and by 15.1% for the full year.
- 200/400 Gbps switch revenue increased by 147.5% in Q4 and by 25.9% over three quarters.
- ODM Direct Sales rose by 67.5% in Q4, accounting for 20.5% of data center revenues.
- In the non-data center segment, revenue declined by 1.2% in Q4 and by 20.0% for the year.
- 1GbE switch revenue increased by 2.0% in Q4 but declined by 22.9% for the year.
Geographic Trends
- USA: Ethernet switch market grew by 16.6% in Q4 but declined by 4.9% for the year.
- Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA): Revenue grew by 12.3% in Q4 but dropped by 11.1% for the year.
- Asia-Pacific (excluding Japan and China): Revenue rose by 9.6% in Q4 and remained flat for the year.
- China: Market grew by 8.9% in Q4 and by 4.5% for the full year.
Router Market
- Service provider segment made up 73.2% of total router market in Q4, down 7.3% YoY.
- Enterprise segment revenue increased by 4.2% in Q4, but declined by 7.0% for the year.
- Americas: Market declined by 4.0% in Q4 and by 24.6% for the year.
- Asia-Pacific: Declined by 5.9% in Q4 and by 18.0% for the year.
- EMEA: Dropped by 3.1% in Q4 and by 11.9% for the year.
